Hi, my name is Alison, and I am a Speech and Language Therapist with substantial experience of working with children and young people who have Speech, Language and Communication Needs. I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2004, and I have worked in schools throughout my career, including 10 years in a specialist school for communication. I have worked with all age groups of children from 2 to 19 years old, with a wide range of communication needs, and an even wider range of strengths, abilities and interests!

I enjoy building up a trusted working relationship with children and their families over time, using my expertise to make a plan together to succeed. I particularly enjoy finding activities and challenges that both work on a communication target and motivate the child I am working with. For young children, it is important that therapy is fun and friendly, so that they feel comfortable and
want to keep on learning. For older children and young people, it’s not just about working on a target, it is about understanding what we are working on and why it is important, and why it is worth their effort!

I am also a Mum of two small children, and my own experience of parenting has given me a good understanding of the challenges faced by parents, especially when their children need some extra help. I work closely with families to provide advice, support and activities that fit in with family life.
